Over 140 illegal immigrants arrested in Southern Morocco

Some 143 Sub-Saharan illegal immigrants, using Morocco as a transit to cross over to Europe, were arrested, Monday and Tuesday in two separate operations, said local authorities.
Combing operations led by local authorities enabled the arrest of 44 Malians,39 Liberians (including 19 women and 4 babies), 22 Ghanaians, 17 Guineans, 10 Senegalese, 8 Gambians and 3 Congolese.
The operation is part the fight against illegal immigration, said local authorities, recalling that from July 15 to 20, 329 Sub-Saharan immigrants were arrested.
Since January, 3,087 illegal immigrants were arrested in the province of Laayoune while they were waiting to be smuggled into Canary Island.
