Palestine, Politics, 7/22/2004
Members of the Palestinian legislative council called for forming a new government after the security crisis which overwhelmed the Palestinian area, with the last of which the assassination attempt on member of the legislative council and former minister of information Nabil Amre.
In its recommendations, the political committee of the Palestinian legislative council called on the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat to accept the resignation of the prime minister Ahmad Qurei' because it could not implement its program though which it could win the the confidence of the council.
The recommendations of the committee come within a plenary study that dealt with the security crisis, which parliamentary sources expected to be ended by casting non confidence in the government of Qurei' who for anticipation submitted his resignation to President Arafat, but Arafat rejected it.
Meantime, news reports said that member of the legislative council and former minister of information Nabil Amre was admitted to Amman in preparation to take him to Paris to receive medical treatment.
The Palestinian prime minister strongly condemned the assassination attempt noting that it explains the extent of the deep security crisis in the Palestinian areas.
Nabil Amre ( 57 year old) one of the critics of corruption in the Palestinian authority and the performance of the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat -- was exposed on Tuesday to a fire by armed men that hit his right hand inside his house in al-Teira district in Ramullah.
In his first statement after he survived the assassination attempt, Nabil Amre said that it is the second time in which he is exposed to an assassination attempt, stressing that such an attemot will not able to silence him and his demansds to reforms.
On the other hand, al-Naser Salah Eddine group -- the military wing of the people's resistance committee -- claimed responsibilities for firing a missile at a house to the south of Israel and did not result in victims.
In a statement, the movement said that the attack came in retaliation to the failed assassination attempt of the leader of the group and also in retaliation to the assassination of the military leaders in the Hizbullah party Ghaleb Alawi.
One Israeli military source admitted that the missile was fired from Gaza and went off in one room of a house and inflected material losses in the building.
