Israel attacks in the depth of Beirut, Hizbullah vows to retaliate, a leading figure in Intifada supporting unit, assassinated

In a professional operation which is the second in less than one year, the Israeli intelligence forces yesterday assassinated one of the cadres of the " Islamic resistance " in Lebanon, Ghaleb Muhammad Awali ( 41 year old) by an explosive implanted in his car in front of his house in Muwad quarters in the southern suburb of Beirut and the car was detonated as he got into it.

The Hizbullah party held Israel responsible for the crime and said it will redeem this act, while Israel gave no official reactions and the Israeli media quoted military officials that measures were taken on the northern front in precaution of an answer from the " Hizbullah " side.

While the secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah party was announcing that Awali was in the team assigned by the party to support the Palestinian Intifada, investigations at the site of the crime were limited to gathering the evidences just to that the operation is similar to that carried out by Israel one year ago in the southern quarters and resulted in the assassination of Ali Saleh, one of the resistance cadres who was working for supporting the Palestinian Intifada.

Awali, one of the resistance cadres who worked for the two past decades in various fronts of resistance and is known by the Israelis while he was detained by them for one and a half years and through his leadership of special operations against them during the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. After the liberation of the south in 2000, he devoted himself to work in a team assigned by the Hizbullah to give support to the Palestinian Intifada. He is a member in this unit in charge of this mission.

Before Alawi's funeral in his town Toulin, Marj Eyoun district, Nasrullah had seen off Alawi by a speech preceded by prayers in al Rweis. In his speech Nasrullah held Israel as responsible for his assassination, rejecting to hold other sides responsible for that. He talked about the hireling used by Israel to carry out such operations and vowed to retaliate to this operations.
