Hours after seizing a military commander, security officials resigned, French kidnapped in Gaza

The commander of the preventive security forces in Gaza Col. Rashid Abu Shabak and the director of the general intelligence lt. Gen. Amin al-Hunisi submitted their resignation to the Palestinian president Yasser Arafat. News reports in Palestine said that the two officials resigned in protest of the conditions prevailing and over not issuing clear instructions to end the bad state of security, chaos and corruption.

On the other hand, a group of gunmen kidnapped four French citizens in Khan Younis city to the south of Gaza. News reports said, according to security sources and witnessed that the kidnapped are held in the building of the Palestinian headquarters in one of Khan Younis quarters and the detainees are two women and two men.

The news reports added that the kidnappers, eight veiled men are still holding the four French who are said to work for the Palestinian electricity company.

Earlier, members of martyr Ahmad Abu al-Rish groups kidnapped col. Khaled Abu al-Ola the commander of the Palestinian liaison to the south of Gaza in Khan Younis.

News reports said that the groups have not so far announced responsibility for the operation but its executors are members of the groups working with col. Abu al-Ola.

However, the groups of Jenin " Martyrs " of the people's resistance committees released the commander of the Palestinian police Lt. Gen. Ghazi al-Jibali following the mediation of the Palestinian preventive security in Gaza col. Rashid Abu Shabak and the secretary of the Palestine national liberation movement ( Fatah) in the sector Ahmad Halas.

Al-Jabali was released after responds to demands set by his holders. The spokesman for the " Jenin martyrs " groups said that the Palestinian authority, foremost being President Yasser Arafat vowed to bring al-Jabali for investigations over matters relating to corruption within 72 hours and to remove him from his post.

The spokesman- Abu Eyad- described al-Jabali as a bad number and should be " accounted for over stealing sums and the corruption practiced by the police and bribes paid by the bloods of the Palestinians." Witnesses in the camp said that the commander of " Jenin martyrs " and several Palestinian resistance leaders took part in the negotiations conducive to the release of al-Jabali.
