One suspect surrendered to the Saudi embassy in Damascus
Saudi Arabia-Syria, Politics, 7/16/2004

Relatives of al-Sadeq al-Harbim, the man wanted by the Saudi authorities who left he Kingdom after a short detention period, said that he had surrendered himself to the Saudi embassy in Damascus, making use of the royal pardoning which expires on July 23rd.

Al-Harbi's elder brother who has become the fourth person to surrender himself to the Saudi authorities in the course of the pardon, Abdul Jafaar, said that his brother surrendered to his country's embassy after a notification from members of his family to Prince Nayef about his intention to that. He added " He is now at the embassy and is due to leave for his country later in the day."

Meantime, the Saudi daily al-Watan said yesterday that nine Saudi police men were injured in confrontation with 3000 citizens who tried to prevent selling lands in auction in al-Taif area, 790 Km to the west of Riyadh.

The paper explained that more than " 3,000 citizens tried yesterday to obstruct the process of selling lands in auction, and then a group of the special emergency forces was obliged to interfere and disperse persons from the site." The paper added that persons from certain tribes in the area chanted slogans saying that these lands are for them and inherited from their ancestors and were able to break into the office designed to sell the lands and destroyed its furniture together with three cars. The paper continued that the " riot-fighting groups were obliged to open fire bullets in air to disperse them, but they threw stones at the security men and this resulted in wounding nine of them and one Yemeni residence in Saudi Arabia.
