Some 15 gunmen were killed by the Iraqi national guards

The Iraqi defense minister Hazem al-Shalaan said yesterday that Iraqi forces from the national guards and the ministry of defense killed 15 persons and detained other 9 in an operation linked to the confrontations that took place with Iraqi fighters in Haifa street on July 7th.
Shalaan said that detained men gave information that led to detaining others but he did not explain if losses of the gunmen took place during confrontations of July 7th or the followed days.
In Karkouk to the north of Iraq, the police said that four Kurds were injured yesterday by a mortar shelling in a second attack of that sort in less than 12 hours. A shelling fell earlier in the day led to the killing of five Iraqis from one family and injuring others.
In the same city, a pipe explosion linking between Karkouk and Jeihan yesterday led to the halting of exports in the Turkish port at the Mediterranean. Gunmen also killed one guard, responsible for guarding the oil pipelines. He is the 7th man to be killed while in service duty.
Moreover, 10 persons were killed including three members of the Iraqi police and other 27 injured in a booby trapped car explosion near a police building in Haditha city to the northern west of Baghdad.
In Kerbalaa, to the south of Iraq one booby trapped car went off at midnight yesterday, 500 meters from a base used by the Bulgarian forces after the police chased and besieged the car. One police official said that two persons are presumed to have had blown up the car were killed.
Meantime, the Iraqi prime minister Eyad Allawi said yesterday he will establish a general directorate for security in order to resist what he called terrorist operations. The Iraqi minister of the interior Falah al-Naqib said that the foundation of this system will be a message for what he called the destructors and terrorist groups in Iraq.
Allawi also said he will start next week a regional tour covering several countries including Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates after he had received invitations from these countries.
This is, however, is considered the first round for Allawi after he assumed the authority on June 1st.
Concerning prisoners held by the American forces, witnesses said yesterday that these forces released some 93 Iraqi prisoners from Abu Ghreib jail.
In al-Musil to the north of Iraq, a funeral was held for the assassinated governor of Ninwa Osama Kashmoula who was assassinated on Wednesday with two of his guards, amid strong security conditions.
