Saudi Arabia-USA, Politics, 7/15/2004

The American embassy in Riyadh said that it is about to announce stopping the research operations for the body of the American Paul Johnson who was killed by armed men in al-Qaida organization on June 18 without finding his body. The announcement was made after the failure of the search operations for the body.

The spokeswoman for the embassy Carol Calin said " the operations we are making to find the body of Paul Johnson have almost completed. We have made our utmost efforts to find it." But she indicated that the embassy can not decide if the Saudi authorities will also stop searches, adding that co-operation between the two sides in investigations is continuous.

A statement by the embassy said that co-operation between the Saudi authorities and the Federal Investigation Bureau ( FBI) will continue investigation in the conditions of kidnapping Johnson and killing his colleague Keneth Scroj on June 12 in his house at al-Malez quarters in al-Riyadh.

The statement indicated that the American ambassador notified Johnson's family the failure of research operations for the body, noting that the Saudi authorities asked the support of the FBI in searches for evidences and several members of the bureau helped the Saudis in this regard but no definite results were reached.

Johnson, the air defense industries engineer ( 49 year old) was kidnapped on June 12 in Riyadh before the kidnappers beheaded him on June 18.
