Palestinian authority considers Larsen as persona non Grata, UN procession fired at by Israeli forces in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/15/2004
The advisor of the Palestinian president Nabil Abu Rudinah announced that the UN envoy to the Middle East Terry Rod Larsen is "persona non grata" on the Palestinian territories as from July 14, Wednesday.
Abu Rudinah described Larsen's position before the UN Security Council concerning the conditions in the Palestinian territories as distorted, aligned and untrue and called on the UN secretary general to investigate in the behavior of his delegate and dispatch neutral representatives.
Larsen provoked the Palestinians after he had strongly, for the first time, criticized the Palestinian President Yasser Arafat over his ill desire to reform the Palestinian authority and supporting the Egyptian efforts to re-organizing the Palestinian security systems.
In a speech before the UN security council on Tuesday, Larsen warned that the Palestinian authority is facing a real danger of collapse.
Meantime, one UN procession in Gaza was exposed to fire by the Israeli forces tanks to the north of Gaza. Witnesses said that the procession which is composed of 12 trucks was transporting foodstuffs and children milk and medical aids to the besieged Beit Hanoun town, since two weeks.
The witnesses explained that the procession was exposed to fire immediately after it entered Beit Hanoun escorted by the official responsible for the relief operations in Gaza Peter Hansen whose companions were obliged to seek shelter from the occupation bullets in one of the adjoining buildings. No casualties were reported.
On Tuesday evening, Israeli helicopters bombarded a complex for smith workshops in al-Zeitoun quarters in Gaza. A spokesman for the occupation forces said that the workshops which were in one building are used by the Islamic Resistance movement ( Hamas) and other armed forces to produce different groups of weapons, especially al-Qassam missiles.
In the West Bank, the occupation forces, bombarded two houses owned by two Palestinian families, chased in Ramullah and Jenin.
