Sobeih says Arab League to lobby UNSC to implement ICJ ruling
Palestine-Regional, Politics, 7/13/2004
Palestinian Chief delegate to the Arab League Mohamed Sobeih affirmed Sunday that the pan-Arab organization would seek to get the UN Security Council to implement the International Court of Justice's ruling on the illegality of Israel's separation wall.
In statements to Al-Jazeera satellite channel, Sobeih expressed belief that the US would veto any resolution condemning Israel.
Few hours prior to the meeting of the Arab group in the United Nations for coordinating stances on moves for implementing the ICJ ruling on the Israeli separation wall, Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei has categorically denied that the Palestinian Authority adjourned efforts for referring the separation wall case to the Security Council until after the US elections.
Qurei told a news conference that the PA would resort to all international organizations which could help implement the ICJ ruling.
He said the ruling would be remitted to the United Nations Secretary General adding that the General Assembly would then be invited to hold an extraordinary session for taking a resolution on putting the ICJ ruling into effect.
