Al-Ibraheimi calls on Syria to support Iraq
Syria-Iraq, Politics, 7/13/2004

The special advisor of the UN secretary general Elakhder al-Ibrahimi called yesterday on Syria to contribute to returning stability to Iraq.

He said following his meeting with the Syrian foreign minister Farouk al-Shara in Damascus yesterday that "it is Syria's duty to help as much as possible the return back of security and stability to Iraq." He added that the Syrians " stressed they are ready to carry out their role in this regard," adding that he handed Iran a similar message, denying simultaneously that talks dealt with sending Arab forces to Iraq with the Syrians.

Al-Ibraheimi added that " Iraq is an important country in the region.. seeks in order to build itself." He added " Iraq wants to restore back security and stability and it is the duty of its neighbors, brothers and the international community to help it achieve these legitimate objectives as soon as possible."

Meantime, the Iraqi deputy prime minister Barham Saleh left Damascus yesterday in conclusion of a visit that lasted for three days during which he had met with President Bahar al-Assad. The official for the press office of the Kurdistani National Federation party in Damascus Salah Brawri said yesterday quoting Saleh that the Iraqi prime minister " Eyad Allawi wants to visit Syria as soon as possible and that President Bashar al-Assad stressed Syria's readiness to receive him."
