Arab support for Sudan's efforts to normalize the situation in Darfur

The secretary general of the Arab Gulf Cooperation welcomed the efforts of the Sudanese government to normalize relations in Darfur and steps taken by the Sudanese government over the normalization of conditions in Darfur as it was agreed with the UN by Khartoum in June.
For its part, the Arab League called on the UN for not accelerating the imposition of sanctions on Khartoum and giving an opportunity for implementing the agreement signed with it.
In a statement, the Arab League called following a meeting with permanent representatives at the UN Security Council to give full support to Sudan and help it implementing the agreement set in three- months period.
Washington had submitted a draft resolution to the UN Security Council states to sign sanctions against militias that might expand to cover officials in the government. Powell, the US secretary of state also threatened of the interference of the international community to solve this crisis.
