Azmi Beshara ends hunger strike
Palestine-Israel, Politics, 7/12/2004

Member of the Israeli Knesset Azmi Beshara together with other 22 persons on Saturday ended a food strike that lasted for one week in protest of the wall of separation built by Israel in the West Bank.

This was after the issuance of the decision of the International Court of Justice which called for removing the wall. Beshara had started a food strike on July 3rd in order to direct the attention of the world opinion and the Arab opinion to the " crime committed through building this wall, especially in Jerusalem."

Later, Beshara was joined by other 22 persons from occupied Jerusalem and members of the Palestinian legislative council and Christian and Islamic figures, who stayed in a tent at the last point the wall reached in al-Raam town in the West Bank overlooking Jerusalem. Some participants in the strike described the decision of the court as a victory for their efforts to resist the wall, which they consider as an Israeli attempt to annex parts of the lands of the West Bank.
