Britain makes investigations about Sheikh al-Qardawi
Regional-UK, Politics, 7/9/2004
London's police chief said he submitted a file to the British attorney general including some of what he described controversial statements for the Islamic clergy Youssef al-Qaradawi, according to a complaint raised by leaders of the Jewish communities in Britain against the visit al-Qaradawi is making.
Scholar al-Qaradawi is taking part in the 13th session of the European council for al-Iftaa which is expected to declare the foundation of the league of Muslim scholars in the world.
The complaints of the Jews came hours only after an announcement made by the British minister of the Interior David Blanket in which he said he is planning to enact a new legislation to halt violations practiced against Muslims since September 11, 2001, but he added that al-Qaradawi statements will be monitored along his stay in the country.
Blanket is being exposed to increasing pressures to alienate al-Qaradawi. He said his commentaries ( al-Qaradawi) will be monitored closely to disclose any remarks provoking racial hatred or repression. Sheik Youssef will deliver Friday's sermon today in the main mosque in London in addition to other parallel activities.
However, al-Qaradawi's supporters indicated he has been visiting this country for the last 30 years without complaints from others. Al-Qaradawi is known as a poet, writer and articulated speaker, is widely known for giving up extremism.
After September 11, 2002 incidents, al-Qaradawi urged all Muslims to donate their blood to help the victims, he also condemned the explosions of Bali islands in Indonesia in 2002 and considered it as immoral brutal act.
