Zarqawi: we refused a ransom to rescue Burg
Iraq-USA, Politics, 7/8/2004

An Islamic web on the Internet on Tuesday issued a taped voice in which it indicated that the presumed leader of al-Qaida organization in Iraq, the Jordanian Abu Musab al-Zarqawi said that his group refused accepting a ransom to release the American Nicholas Burg and instead of that executed him in revenge of the sufferings of the Iraqis and the Afghans.

The tape which said to be in al-Zarqawi voice and lasted for 70 minutes indicated that persons it did not identify " were ready to give us the sum we want for rescuing the life of this non-believer." The tape added " despite our urgent need for money to finance the Jihad we preferred to avenge our sisters and nation."
