Egypt, Economics, 7/7/2004
Deputy Premier and Minister of Agriculture Youssef Wali said Egypt's fish production increased from 220,000 tons in 1982 to 835,000 tons in 2004, thus ranking 12th in the world and the first in the Mediterranean region.
The annual per capita share went up from only 6 kg. in 1982, to 14.4 kg. in 2004, Wali said, pointing to the production of the fish farms which yield 50 per cent of Egypt's total production and led to increasing the export quantities.
