A British ambassador in Baghdad

The spokeswoman for the British embassy in Baghdad, Victoria Witford announced that Edward Chaplin, the first British ambassador to Iraq since more than one decade arrived yesterday in Baghdad.
Chaplin, the diplomat who has full command on Arabic language, met with the Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zebari in addition to other several Iraqi officials. Witford added that Chaplin will submit his credentials to the Iraqi President Ghazi Elyawer and will attend the ceremony to hoist the British flag on the embassy.
The last post Chaplin assumed was the director of the Middle East and Africa department at the British foreign office. He had also served in Jordan, Iran and Oman.
