Yemeni forces kill scores of al-Houthi supporters

Yemeni military sources in Saadah province in Yemen said that 40 persons were killed and scores wounded during confrontations which took place during the two past days between the security forces and supporters of the Shiite extremist Hussein al-Houthi in Marran mountain including 10 killed and wounded among the security forces.

Therefore the number of the killed increased to 166 persons in these clashes taking place since June 18, 2003 in the mountainous areas in Saadah governorate in the north west of Yemen, including 125 of al-Houthi supporters and 41 members of the security and army members.

The military sources said in Sanaa that the security forces achieved progress in these clashes and are controlling all surrounding mountainous area of Marran mountain.

News reports said that the government deployed new units and mechanism to the region which reveals that it is about to settle the status of al-Houthi after all efforts failed in convincing him to surrender himself.

Some ten soldiers among those who were killed in the confrontation were buried yesterday at the martyrs cemetery in Sanaa.
