Iraqi Interim government postpones the issuance of a security law
Iraq, Politics, 7/6/2004

The Interim Iraqi government yesterday, once again, postponed a security law pertaining to imposing special measures to withstand the deteriorated security conditions in Iraq, but did not disclose the reason behind the new delay.

Suddenly, the Iraqi Interim prime minister Eyad Allawi abrogated a press conference dedicated to the expected law, just a short time before convening its but without setting a new date for announcing the law. The Iraqi government had planned to disclose the law during a press conference on Saturday but abrogated it suddenly.

Concerning the introduction of peace keeping forces from Arab and Islamic states especially from neighboring countries, Allawi said that Iraq does not want peace keeling forces from neighboring states in order to avoid sensitivities among its sects and various races. He said that Iraq's neighbors can give greater " support " by protecting their borders and preventing sneaking operations from it.

Within the same context, Malaysia's prime minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, said on Monday that the Islamic states have not announced yet their position towards sending forces to Iraq, adding that the cycle of violence there will not encourage many countries to take this step.

He added that the organization has not received any remark from any member state over its readiness to take part in the multi-national forces. Abdullah who presides over the Organization of the Islamic Conference OIC -- which has 57 members -- said that richer Islamic states in the region can give the helping hand.
