Rebels boycott the Sudanese negotiations in Addis Ababa
Sudan, Politics, 7/5/2004

Al-Adalah and al-Musawat ( justice and equity) movement which is considered one of the rebel movements against the Sudanese government in Darfour district announced it will boycott the talks due to be organized in the mid of July in Addis Ababa between Khartoum and the Darfour rebels.

The spokesman for the movement, Ahmad Hussein Adam, said that his movement was not consulted over political negotiations between the rebels in Darfur district and the Sudanese government which the chairman of the African federation commission Alfa Omar Konary announced its launch on Saturday on July 15 in Ethiopia's capital, Addis Ababa.

In a press statement, Adam said that his movement did not say it will boycott the negotiations but laid imperative conditions like dismantling Jangaweid militias and pulling them out of Darfur, according to a certain time that paves the way for the people of the region to return back. He stressed that the government has to prove its will in negotiating by preparing the ground for that through halting the raids and opening the way for relief organizations.

Several days ago, rebel forces in Darfur refused taking part in the peace talks that were due to be held last Friday in Chad, accusing the government of violating the cease fire which was reached in April.
