UAE, Iran exchange releasing sailers, fishing boats

The United Arab Emirates UAE and Iran exchanged the release of sailers and fishing boats the two sides had held after they had entered the territorial waters of the two states since the beginning of June.

The release came after the authorities concerned in the two states made sure that the sailers and their boats entered the territorial waters unintentionally.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE ) officials news agency on Thursday quoted an official source at the foreign ministry as saying that Iranian sailers were freed after they were siezed on June 5th with their boat in its territorial waters after the authorities concerned made sure that their entry was not deliberate.

On June 6th, Iran protested the entry of UAE war vessels into its territorial waters and the detention of the crew of an Iranian fishing ship in the waters of Greater Tanb island, Tanb small island and Abu Mousa, controlled by Tehran since 1971.

On the Iranian side, the Iranian foreign ministry announced on Thursday the release of a group of UAE fishemen who- as it alleged - were in its territorial waters in June. The spokesman for the Iranian foreign ministry said that investigations show that the captain and crew of the UAE ship entered mistakenly the Iranian regional waters.

Iran in June held 7 UAE fishing boats and their 28 crew members. The UAE confirmed the return back of all the sailers and the fishing boats held by the Iranian authorities.
