An explosion in Baghdad, one American soldier was killed in al-Anbar

News reports in Baghdad said that a huge explosion shook al-Amereyah quarters to the west of Baghdad, no hints were made to casualties. However, the American army said that it made an under- control explosion at the southern west outskirts of Baghdad.

Witnesses said that widows shook and that an explosion lit the sky in the western areas of the city.

The American army announced that one soldier of the Marine forces was killed in confrontations that took place in al-Anbar governorate to the west of Iraq on Thursday.

Another soldier was killed and other four injured in what was described by American forces of a traffic incident in Iraq near the borders with Kuwait.

In Sameraa to the north of Baghdad, four personal guards for the house of the advisor of the Iraqi ministery of the interior were killed today. Witnesses said that fire bullets were heard in Sameraa hours after the withdrawl of the American forces from the town to permit Iraqi forces to assume security tasks there.

In Musil to the north of Iraq, one soldier was killed and other two injured to the south of the city, according to a statement by the American army.

In al-Qadeseyah quarters in Baghdad, three persons were killed including a senior official in the finance auditing department as a result of a bomb explosion placed on the road side. Other four were hit in the explosion which took place on Thursday morning.

Concerning the existence if foreign forces in Iraq, the Portugese ministry of the interior said on Thursday that the contingent of the Portugese police will remain in Iraq until November 12, at the request of the Iraqi government, in order to contribute to the efforts to establishing security in this country.
