Al-Assad, confers with Washington Cardinal

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad met Theodore McCarrick, Cardinal of Washington for the Roman Catholics at al-Rawda Palace Sunday morning.
Talks during the meeting dealt with the dialogue among religions and Syria's historical role in this regard as well as its embodiment of the spirit of tolerance and cooperation between Islam and Christianity.
Talks also dealt with strengthening cooperation and co-existence among cultures on the basis of constructive dialogue.
President al-Assad expressed appreciation of the role of Pope John Paul II in spreading tolerance and accord among religions.
For his party, Cardinal McCarrick talked about the Syrian role in symbolizing the values of amity and openness.
