Al-Sharif a chairman for the Egyptian Shoura council, Mubarak assures on his good health
Egypt, Politics, 6/25/2004
Safwat al-Sharif was elected yesterday ( Thursday) as a chairman for the Egyptian Shoura council after the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak agreed to his resignation on Thursday from his post as a minister of information. A post he had occupied for 22 years.
The Egyptian prime minister Atef Obeid said that he had submitted al-Sharif resignation to President Mubarak and that the latter accepted it and hoped al-Sharif success in his new mission. Obeid explained that the minister of culture Farouk Hosni will assume the post of the acting minister of information for a provisional period.
However, the transfer of al-Sharif from the government to the Shoura council comes at a time when Arab and foreign papers talked about differences between parties of the old guards in the Egyptian government, among whom al-Sharif is considered on top of the list, and Jamal Mubarak, the son of the Egyptian President who wants to introduce political reforms.
On the other hand, the Egyptian President assured his citizens on his health conditions and notified them that he undergoes a daily treatment and is maintaining necessary exercise and that natural treatment will continue and will not undergo a surgery unless the doctors decide that natural treatment is futile and he expects he will not stay for long in Germany.
Mubarak ( 76 year old) stressed from the Egyptian TV which screened shots for him, while talking from the hospital where he is receiving medical treatment that he is following the affairs of the country.
