Al-Gomhuri : Bashir: Joint history, geography compel Egypt, Sudan integration
Sudan-Egypt, Politics, 6/24/2004

Sudanese President Omar Hassan Al-Bashir told Al-Gomhuri, that consultations are always held with President Hosni Mubarak to activate joint Arab action.

In an interview with Al-Gomhuri, in Khartoum, Al-Bashir wished Mubarak speedy recovery to resume shouldering his message in achieving welfare for the Egyptian people and supporting the joint Arab action.

Responding to a question on the Egyptian-Sudanese ties, Al-Bashir highlighted the geographical and historical perspectives that link Egypt and Sudan towards stronger and more developed political, cultural and economic ties.

"We are totally in favor of integration between Egypt and Sudan. The Higher Egypt-Sudan Committee is exerting to put into effect the already-signed agreements," he added.

On exporting Sudanese meat to Egypt in return for 50% in cash and 50% in Egyptian commodities, Bashir said that such a deal is "a very special one."

Sudanese meat exports to the Gulf states fall under supply and demand formula.

Yet in meat exports to Egypt, the Sudanese government will pay $ 3000 per ton to reduce the price and transport charges.

On Sudanese territorial integrity, the Sudanese President said that Sudan is the strategic depth of Egypt.

"We are sure of the Egyptian support to the choice of unity, stability and peace in Sudan."

ΚΚΚ Asked on the signing of the final peace agreement with SPLA in August, Bashir said that the peace stage is very important in the history of Sudan that requires the joint efforts of the Sudanese people to materialize peace and unity in Sudan towards a new revival.

Speaking on Darfur, the Sudanese President said that the government has placed no obstacles before the international aid agencies to fulfill their tasks.

The government has also shouldered its responsibility to provide aid for the afflicted in Darfur, since the crisis started. The Sudanese businessmen and NGOs have also helped in Darfur.

Bashir said that his government has also repeatedly requested international agencies to provide aid for Darfur. The claims on government hindrances to relief operations are baseless, he highlighted.

Responding to a question on the foreign circles claims that the Sudanese government supports the Janjaweed tribes of Arab origin against the tribes of African origin, Bashir said those circles came to the understanding that the South of Sudan problem was coming to an end, and therefore, they sought another loophole to interfere in Sudan.

The developments in Darfur can by no means be called Arab-African disputes as in Darfur; Arab and African races are intermingled. He ruled out that the Darfur dispute had any ethnic nature.
