Palestine-Israel, Politics, 6/24/2004

Israeli occupation forces killed two-Palestinians in Gaza Strip on Tuesday. An Israeli military source claimed it was against armed activists. Residents said one of the men was shot near the town of Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza Strip. The identity of the second man was not immediately known.

An Israeli military source said soldiers opened fire at two armed men and reported that both had been hit. Palestinian ambulance crew took away the bodies.

Meantime, Israeli occupation forces arrested at dawn yesterday eleven Palestinians from various parts of the West Bank on the charge of resisting occupation, Israel Radio reported.

Meanwhile, thousands of Palestinians, including foreign peace activists, demonstrated in al-Zawiya village in the West Bank in protest of building works in the racial separation wall near Ariel settlement, Israel Radio said. Scores of demonstrators suffered as a result of inhaling tear-gas from grenades fired by Israeli forces. In Gaza Strip, Israeli army destroyed two Palestinian houses in Wadi al-Salqa village to the east of Deir al-Balah. Palestinian security sources reported that an Israeli force backed by tanks and bulldozers broke into Beit Hanoun town amidst intensive shooting at Palestinian houses. Bulldozers devastated agricultural lands. The sources added that a military siege was imposed on the town.

In Khan Younis, Israeli army fired a number of tank shells at Palestinian houses. In retaliation to the continued Israeli acts of aggression, Palestinian resistance-men fired three anti-armor shells at Israeli positions in the Gaza Strip. Israel Radio did not mention casualties as a result of the attack. Meantime, a fire broke out in the Galilee area fields in 1948 Palestinian lands. Israel Radio gave no details on the reasons of the fire.
