China welcomes President al-Assad's coming state visit

China on Wednesday warmly welcomed the forthcoming state visit of president Bashar al-Assad to China next week, hoping it would be fruitful for both countries.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman told a press conference china was confident that President Assad's visit would push forward cordial cooperation ties between the two countries to a "new higher and more refined level." " The Syrian-Chinese relations are those of old-friendship, for since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, they have seen a continuous friendly growth in all fields," spokesman said.
The spokesman stressed china's strong desire to boost cooperation with Syria noting that Syria and China are going to sign many bilateral accords in health, economy and commerce domains.
The two sides would exchange views and ideas over bilateral relations as well as regional and international issues of common concern, the spokesman added.
President Assad is scheduled to hold meetings with China's President Hu Jintao, chairman of the permanent committee for the people's deputies at the national council and Wen Jiabao, China's state council chairman.
