Jordanian parliamentary delegation discusses in Syria the question of the detainees
Syria-Jordan, Politics, 6/16/2004

News reports in Amman said that a Jordanian parliamentary delegation will visit Damascus within the few coming days to hold talks with Syrian officials to demand them releasing 270 Jordanians held in the Syrian jails.

News reports quoted the chairman of the freedoms committee at the Jordanian parliament Jamal al-Dammour as saying that the parliamentary delegation will meet with the Syrian ambassador in Amman in preparation for the visit of the delegation to Syria before heading to Damascus.

Al-Dammour added that the Jordanian parliamentary committee handed over a list in the names of the Jordanian detainees to the chairman of the constitutional committee at the Syrian parliament Faisal Kalthoum, earlier, during the meetings of the Arab Inter parliamentary Union in Damascus in order to hand it over to the Syrian minister of the Interior to close up this file.

Al-Dammour stressed that there are Jordanian detainees in Syria for political reasons on the freedom of opinion expression and others in civil issues. He indicated that the Syrian foreign minister Marwan Muasher stressed his support for the efforts of the Jordanian parliamentary freedoms committee with the Syrian authorities to discuss the file of the Jordanian detainees in Syria.
