Iraq neighboring countries's FM s meet in Istanbul

The foreign ministers of Iraq neighboring countries Tuesday held a meeting in Istanbul with the participation the Special Representative of UN Secretary General in Iraq Lakhdar al-Ibrahimi. The ministers reviewed the latest developments in Iraq and the future situation in the country after June 30, the date of power transfer in Iraq.

In a final statement following the meeting, the ministers stressed Iraq's sovereignty, independence, unity and the Iraqi people's right to run their own affairs. In this regard, the ministers said the transfer of power should be comprehensive and it should be followed by a complete participation of Iraqi people in a free elected government.

The statement reiterated the central role of UN in helping Iraqi people achieve their aspirations of independence and sovereignty. It referred to the important role the neighboring countries might play in offering help to the Iraqi people.
