Gul on Turkish- Arab relations
Regional-Turkey, Politics, 6/14/2004
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul described the Turkish-Syrian relations as excellent.
In an interview with al-Jazeera Satellite Channel broadcast Saturday, Gul said the Turkish government wants to enhance relations with the Arab states in the political, economic and commercial fields, adding " we are very pleased with these relations."
He added Turkey seeks to play a positive role in the peace process in the Middle East.
"Turkey nowadays prepares an economic program to help Palestinians get rid of the very bad conditions they live as a result of the Israeli destruction, particularly in Gaza," Gul told al-Jazeera Channel.
He said the Israeli practices against the Palestinian people will not give peace to the Israelis because killing thousands of people and demolishing homes couldn't be considered as normal issues and " we reject those practices."
On Iraq, Gul said the most important thing is restoring the stability to Iraq, in that case the Iraqi people could use their resources and build a new Iraq that contributes to the stability of the region.
