Allawi denies withdrawal of the Kurds from his government
Iraq, Politics, 6/11/2004
The Iraqi Prime minister Eyad Allawi denied news which talked about the withdrawal of the Kurdish ministers from the provisional government, but simultaneously admitted that the decision of the UN Security Council did not guarantee the constitution of the provisional state which provoked the rage of the Kurdish forces.
An official source in the government of the Kurdistani national federation party led by Jalal al-Talibani said that Barham Saleh who was appointed as a deputy premier for national security " returned back to Iraq's Kurdistan and will not return back to Baghdad unless his authority in the new government will be defined.." The source explained that Saleh rejects the implementation of a policy of assuming the Kurds the posts of parliamentarians as used to be under the former regime and also refuses assuming a formal post just to fill the vacuum.
For his part, Fadel Meirani -- the secretary of the political bureau of the Kurdistani democratic party which is led by Masoud al-Barazani -- said that the Kurdis national council ( the parliament) will announce the position of the Kurds concerning the recent deceision of the UN Security Council on Iraq within 48 hours.
The Kurdish officials stressed that the " Kurdistani parliament is considered the first and last reference for Kurdistan district and is the one to give the final decision on this issue."
