Iraq-Vatican, Politics, 6/10/2004

Zeinab Aziz, daughter of the former Iraqi prime minister Tareq Aziz told the Italian Catholic " Familia Christiania " yesterday that Aziz's family appealed to Pope John Paul II to get news about him.

Zeinab said " we remained without news about him until the last week of June 2003, when we got the first message. But after that we could not see him or trace news about him." Zeinab (36 year old), who is living with her mother and one sister and one brother in Jordan added " we have asked the help of all, the Red Crosss; the humanitaian organizations, cheiftains of the Iraqi tribes, the Christian leaders and the Papal Nuncio in Baghdad and extended a message to the Pope."

Within 14 months, the family only received seven messages about Tareq Aziz ( 68 year old), the only christian among the government members of Saddam Hussein.
