Israeli helicopters destroy two industrial workshops in Gaza
Palestine-Israel, Military, 6/9/2004
Israeli military warplanes yesterday late evening destroyed two workshops for mineral processing at the entrance of al-Shate' ( coast) camp for the refugees in Gaza and this resulted in wounding two of the passerby and destroying the two workshops.
Palestinian medical sources and witnesses said that the Israeli raid targeted a factory to manufacture windows frames, while the second is for maintaining electricity generators. Other witnesses reported that the raid targeted a workshop for repairing motorcycles.
On the other hand, the Israeli army confirmed the raid which it alleged came in retaliation of firing a missile from north Gaza on a road in Sedrout town to the south of Israel. The army alleged that the raid targeted a workshop for Hamas while the Islamic Jihad movement announced that it was the side which fired the missile hours before the raid.
In a later development, Palestinian security sources said that one Palestinian was injured on Tuesday by the bullets of the Israeli occupation forces to the north of Ramullah and another one was detained in the downtown of the city.
On the other hand, the Israeli minister of trade and industry Ehud Olmert announced on Tuesday that Eretz industrial area which is situated on the border between Israel and Gaza will be closed.
Olmert said that the Israeli projects working currently in Eretz will be dismantled and transferred to south Israel because of what he called the state of instability resulted from the recent Palestinian attacks in the area following the withdrawal decision from Gaza.
However, some 5,000 Palestinian employees are working in the Industrial Eretz area which is located on a strip between Israel and Gaza and includes some 200 Israeli and Palestinian companies.
