Syrian efforts to join OPEC

Syria on Thursday said it supports the policy of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries OPEC and hoped to join the Organization soon.

In a statement to SANA Correspondent in Beirut, Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources Ibrahim Haddad underlined the strong ties between Syria and the OPEC, expressing Syria's hope to join the Organization once its oil production amounts to 900,000 barrel a day.

" We invited Ministers of Oil at the OPEC to visit Damascus to be acquainted with historical sites, the economic and oil situations in Syria," Haddad said.

He pointed out that Syria participated in the OPEC Ministerial discussions and made a contribution in in the final statement as an observer member.
