Iraq, Politics, 6/3/2004
The UN secretary general envoy for Iraq al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi said that the formation of the Iraqi Interim government represents a vast strata of the Iraqis, noting that those who are not represented in the government will be represented in the national congress which will be formed shortly.
Al-Ibraheimi who played an effective role in the formation of the Iraqi government said in a press conference in Baghdad ruled out making nearby elections, noting that this work Iraq is not limited to the formation of the interim government, rather comes in the course of a vast political opertation including forming the national congress and making elections.
This, however, comes at a time when the UN Security Council is holding discussions on an American - British draft resolution on transferring the authorities to the Iraqis.
Both the US and Britain amended their draft resolution in a way it includes a schedule for the withdrawal of the multi national forces from Iraq.
However, reactions welcoming the formation of an Interim Iraqi government continued, especially overf appointing Ghazi Elyawer as the first President for Iraq after the Angl-American invasion in Iraq and Iraq's 9th ruler since the foundation of the modern Iraqi state in the 1920s.
In a press conference held at the White House, President George W. Bush denied any interference by his administration in the formation of the Interim Iraqi government. Bush considered that al-Akhdar al-Ibrahimi succeeded in choosing a capable team and a will for leading Iraq in confrontation of challenges waiting it.
In the battle field, the Iraqi police said that four persons were at least killed and more than 20 injured in a booby trapped car explosion in Omar Bin Abdul Aziz Street in al-Azameyah quarters in Baghdad.
In al-Sader city to the west of Baghdad, the office of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader said that two members of al-Mahdi army militias were killed on Tuesday in clashes that took place after several American vehicles entered the city.
