Al-Assad lauds Spain's position on Mideast conflict

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad on Tuesday evening expressed appreciation of Spain's impartial stances over the Mideast East conflict hoping to relaunch the peace process and lauding Madrid's support to EU-Syria association agreement.

In a speech at a dinner banquet held by King Juan Carlos of Spain at the Orient Palace in Madrid, President al-Assad said "we appreciate Spain's unbiased positions over the Arab-Israeli conflict and its confirmation of the international resolutions implementation."

" We expect the appropriate conditions will be available to restart the peace process by removing obstacles and hinders on its road and implement principles of Madrid peace conference reference," President Assad said.

He also wished the peace-backing inclinations to widen as to face anti-peace moves in the Middle East noting that it was a pity that they were increasing.

President al-Assad backed Spain's renewed call to build international relations on the basis of understanding and mutual respect and said," we appreciate Spain's boosting to Syria's efforts to join partnership between Syria and the EU and hope this will be achieved soon."

On bilateral relations with Spain, al-Assad emphasized the necessity to follow up agreements signed with Madrid and implement them as well as to open wider horizons for dialogue among the two countries research, education and cultural institutions. He noted this is to boost our political dialogues and to establish the common ground to make our positions clearer and more understandable.

The President denounced the brutal and terror attacks Spain had exposed to that aimed at her sons life, security and stability and announced solidarity with the friendly Spaniard people in this tragic event that had painful impact on all Syrians.

On Iraq, President al-Assad reiterated Syria's readiness to contribute in any international effort exerted to deal with turmoil factors there and hoped the success of these efforts to cool down existing tension through the realization of stability in Iraq.

Al-Assad also looked forward to the beginning of Iraq's reconstruction and development in a way that would lead to improve the Iraqi conditions.
