Egyptian businessmen seek pharmaceutical cooperation with Russian companies

Members of the Egyptian-Russian Business Council held Friday intensive negotiations on the pharmaceutical industry with a number of Russian pharmaceutical companies.

Negotiations are aimed at helping realize several agreements on joint cooperation in the manufacture of medicines and related technology transfer, especially with regard to raw materials required for developing vaccines.

Mohamed Al-Abadi, a member of the Egyptian delegation to the meetings, said several agreements in this respect are expected to be signed before President Hosni Mubarak completes his current visit to Russia. Russian expertise is sought by Egypt to develop the raw materials inside Egypt after they had been imported for a long time, Abadi added.

This would not only lead to achieving self-sufficiency at the Egyptian local level, but also would help Egypt export these materials to several African countries and other countries neighbouring Russia, he said.
