Latin American-Arab summit in December in Brazil
Regional-Brazil, Politics, 5/27/2004
A summit between Latin American and the Arab states is slated for mid-December in Brazil, a release of the Brazilian foreign ministry announced.
Preparations for the encounter between heads of state and government of Latin American and Arab states were recently examined at a meeting between Brazil's foreign minister, Celso Amorim, and peers from Arab countries in Jordan.
The Brazilian government on Tuesday welcomed the support of Arab heads of state to its president's proposal to hold the Arab summit.
The Brazilian government "has learned with satisfaction" the support of the Arab summit, held last week end in Tunis, to the initiative of Brazilian president, Lula da Silva, says a release of the Brazilian foreign ministry.
The encounter of heads of state and governments of the two regions will contribute to consolidating political, economic and social ties between Latin American countries and the Arab states, says the release.
