Moroccan parliament strongly condemns ' war crimes' committed by Israel in Palestine
Morocco-Palestine, Politics, 5/27/2004
The Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives (Parliament's lower chamber), on Wednesday condemned what he described as "war crimes" committed by Israeli forces in the Occupied Palestinian territories, in a speech at a plenary session of the parliament devoted to Palestine and Iraq.
Abelouahed Radi strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli Aggression against the Palestinian people and the assassination of Hamas leaders namely sheikh Ahmed Yassine and Abdelaziz Rantissi.
Several MPs took the floor during this session to express Morocco's constant solidarity with the Palestinian and Iraqi people and to call for an immediate end to the "extermination policy" carried out by the Israeli forces, in blatant violation of all international conventions and laws.
The session was attended members of the Moroccan Government led by the Prime Minister Driss Jettou.
In his speech, Radi quoted excerpts from the speech delivered by King Mohammed VI at the recent Arab Summit in Tunis in which the monarch, in his capacity as Chairman of Al-Quds committee -an offshoot of the Organization of the Islamic Conference- called on world powers to grant due attention to the Palestinian issue and to reactivate the Roadmap, urging them "to use their good offices again to stop the spiral of violence and bring about conditions conducive to the resumption of negotiations."
The sovereign also pledged to do "everything I can to defend the right of the Palestinian people to establish an independent Palestinian State, with Al-Quds al-Sharif as its capital, living side by side with the State of Israel, in peace and concord."
King Mohammed VI also voiced concern over the situation of the Iraqi people, hoping they will "stay the course in order to run their own affairs and set up national, democratic institutions, which would safeguard the national unity and territorial integrity of their country (..)."
