O Yahya government vows to implement Butaflika's electoral promises
Algeria, Politics, 5/27/2004
With a total majority, the Algerian nation's council approved the government's program. A matter which is considered by its chairman Ahmad O Yahya as a confirmation of the result of the Presidential elections which Abdul Aziz Butaflika won at a greater majority.
O yahya noted that the government's program has come in implementation of the program set by the President of the Republic and the economic, social and political inclinations it abided by before the voters.
O Yahya renewed his government's commitment to the realization of promises implied in the program reflected in building one million houses and two million job opportunities in the second term of office for the President of the republic through reactivating the national economy and encouraging the Algerian national and foreign investment sectors. He recalled that what was achieved in the first term of office is of no less importance than promises given despite the conditions which were prevailing.
On armed men who give up armed violence, O Yahya said that the state deals with all who gave up weapons and decide to integrate in society like others among the Algerians, and also the state guarantees its right in the course of national reconciliation which is the base for the program of the President of the Republic, on which the government builds its work plan.
As for corruption and assets smuggling, indicated by several Ummah council members in their interventions, O Yahya disclosed that the state loses every year some 500 million of money transfers and looting and is working to fight this phenomenon strongly by the force of the law and by renovating and strengthening deterrent means at all levels.
He stressed that the government will establish 100,000 new economic foundations within the five coming years and vow to double foreign investment so as to reach USD 20 billion. He added that the state will also increase its investment at various levels. The private Algerian investment reached USD 6 billion and is expected to increase, according to the government, in the second term of office for Butaflika.
