Egypt-Brazil, Economics, 5/25/2004
Value of the Egyptian-Brazilian trade exchange in 2003 reached $ 496 million, including Egyptian exports to Brazil worth $ 34 million. However, the aggregate bilateral trade exchange in the first three months of 2004 amounted to $ 125.5 million, said Ashraf El-Ataal, Head of the Egyptian-Brazilian Business Council.
An economic delegation headed by Egyptian Minister of Foreign Trade Youssef Boutros Ghali is expected to visit Brazil late in May for talks with officials on increasing joint investments as well as Egypt's exports to Sao Paulo, according to Bahaa El-Attar, Head of North and South Americas Department in the Trade Representation Body. There are many fields for augmenting trade exchange between Egypt and Brazil via increasing the volume of Egypt's exports to Brazil including pharmaceuticals, carpets, ready-to-wear clothes, furniture, cosmetics, onions and garlic.
Egypt's imports from Brazil comprise sugar, cars, paper, plastics and frozen meat, said the Head of the Commercial Department at the Brazilian Embassy in Cairo.
