18.8 million foreigners in Saudi Arabia; booby trapped car in Riyadh

News reports quoted Saudi Arabia's security forces as saying that the security forces found yesterday a booby trapped jeep car in Breida city to the north of Riyadh. This was after they received information of suspected persons in the area, denying an armed clash to have had happened.

The sources said that the security forces "today at noon" ( yesterday) carried out a breaking in operation to one house situated in al-Fakhereyah area in al-Nasim quarters in Breida city after it got information of suspected persons in the area.

The sources added that the security forces " found in the house a booby trapped jeep car but no one of the suspects was found. The sources denied the occurrence of any clash or fire exchange with gunmen during the operation.

On the other hand, the Saudi minister of Labor Ghazi al-Quseibi said that number of foreigners living in Saudi Arabia is estimated at " 8.8 million, almost half of the total number of the Saudi population." He described this number as worrying, and ring the bell of warning, because of the implications and dimensions it implies." Al-Quseibi stressed the determination of the Saudi authorities to reduce number of foreign labor and their escorts in Saudi Arabia to a rate of 20% in comparison of the Saudi population within a period not to exceed 8 years. He considered that the phenomenon of unemployment among the Saudis is " a grave problem threatening a whole generation." he said that reducing foreign labor is " a strategic decision that would not be backed away from."
