Al-Badoun case in Kuwait is to the unknown
Kuwait, Politics, 5/25/2004
The debate on so-called al-Badoun, people of the undefined nationality, in Kuwait has been once again escalated after certain schools expelled scores of their students two days before because they have not yet paid school fees.
Member of the Kuwaiti parliament Jasem al-Kandari addressed some 11 questions to the minister of education Rashid al-Hamad on measures taken by the ministry over this incident and the extent of the readiness of schools to accommodate " al-Badoun" students in the next school year.
In one of the seminars in al-Jahra' area, where the great majority of al-Badoun are living, the government bears the responsibility of teaching children of this group for free in all learning phases in private schooling. He called on the private schools not to expel students who did not pay the fees. But this matter was not abided by.
However, the al-Badoun file entered the path of the unknown after deliberations and discussions over it at the Nation's Council two weeks ago resulted in postponing the discussions but without setting a time ceiling for resuming the discussions.
Several psychologists consider that leaving this critical file unsolved creates a state of anger and ill national commitment among this group, and this is by its turn will be reflected in the general behavior.
Worthy mentioning that the question of al-Badoun in Kuwait has been raised since 50 years. The last statistics says that number of al-Badoun in Kuwait reached some 91,000 and some 17,000 of them were nationalized ( given the Kuwaiti nationality) during the last 10 years.
