The rebels movement in Sudan, one of the rebels movement in Darfour said that 45 persons were killed in the area situated to the west of Sudan in attacks launched by the pro- government militias. No confirmation was made from Khartoum on that.
The director of the secretary general of the Sudan's liberation movement Muhammad Mirsal said that al-Janjwid militias launched attacks on May 20 against several villages situated 15 Km to the south of Neyala, the capital of West Darfour and burnt the villages and opened fire indiscriminately on the people and this resulted in killing 45 persons.
Mirsal said that these attacks took place after a meeting between the Sudanese President Omar Hassan al-Bashir and al-Janjwid leaders during his visit to West Darfour province on Wednesday, when al-Bashir stressed his determination to settle the conflict with the rebels.
In the same context, a research center in Sudan said that famines and diseases might kill 350,000 if the world fails to alleviate the pace of violence.
In a report, the " International Crisis group" called for a rapid move to contain the crisis in Darfour so as "the people of the area will not be the victims of massacres similar to those took place in Rwanda in 1994." The group added that what " the UN officials actually called it the worst humanitarian conditions in the world today would result in killing more than other 350,000 persons in the 9 coming months because of the famine and disease, basically." The UN said that around one million person are dislocated by the conflict in Darfour. It said that this is the largest request for humanitarian aid the world is facing.
