Five Iraqis killed, 27 wounded in violent confrontations in Najaf

Five Iraqis were killed and other 27 wounded during violent confrontations that took place yesterday in Najaf city where fighting were renewed between al-Mahdi army members of the Shiite leader Muqtada al-Sader and the American occupation forces.
Strong explosions were heard coupled with intensive fire were heard in the city, In Kofa witnesses said that clashes took place between the fighters of al-Mahdi army and the American forces at the entrance of the city.
Meantime, the US secretary of state Colin Powell announced yesterday that the UN special envoy El-Akhdar al-Ibraheimi might disclose the list of persons who will be made up of the provisional Iraqi government after one or two weeks.
In a related development, member of the Interim governing council in Iraq Mahmoud Othman strongly criticized the way the American pursue in running Iraq. He called for convening an Iraqi national conference before the formation of the provisional government. He said he proposed that to the coalition authority in the presence of al-Ibraheimi.
