Obeid: sanctions should be on Israel and not Syria
Syria-Lebanon, Politics, 5/18/2004

Syria's Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara received Monday Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid. Talks during the meeting dealt with the latest developments in the region, particularly in Iraq and in Palestine. Talks also dealt with issues of mutual concern.

Meantime, Lebanese Foreign Minister Jean Obeid said his meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Farouk al-Shara Monday comes within the framework of continuous and deep coordination between the two states towards the latest developments in the Arab and regional scenes.

Regarding the American sanctions imposed on Syria, Obeid underlined that those sanctions should be imposed exclusively on Israel which violates all international laws and resolutions, pointing out that they serve Israel's interests, not America's.

He called upon the United States to adopt a policy of fruitful and constructive dialogue to reach solutions for pending issues to serve the two countries' joint interests.
