In conference on reform in Kuwait, Zeibari accuses Gulf states of encouraging violence in Iraq
Iraq-Gulf, Politics, 5/17/2004
The Iraqi foreign minister Hoshyar Zeibari accused certain states in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) of interfering in the internal affairs of Iraq and encouraging violence in order to disseminate instability in the country.
In one of the session of the seminar on "the region and the future" which concluded its works on Sunday, Zeibari complained that certain GCC states which he said are involved in the instability process and interfere in the affairs of Iraq by certain TV stations, media provocation and financing of violence, but did not mention the country by name.
Zeibari defended the continued existence of the occupation forces in Iraq after handing over the authority to the Iraqis due by the end of June, warning that the departure of these forces will make Iraq " an easy piracy and will lead to tension, killing and violence." But the Iraqi minister, on the other hand, stressed that the occupation forces committed "grave mistakes " in the past one year that contributed to the spread of chaos.
