Bombardment of Fatah quarters in Gaza; Five Palestinians killed in clashes
Palestine-Israel, Military, 5/17/2004

An Israeli bombardment targeted today Monday morning the headquarters of the Palestine national liberation movement ( Fatah) in Gaza. News reports said that the missiles fell at the headquarters which is situated in al-Zeitoun quarters near al-Omari mosque. He added that Israeli missiles targeted a sedan car and it was hit by shells. No information was given on the volume of the losses.

On the other hand, Israeli sources said that the army killed four Palestinians on the border of Gaza, while trying to sneak to Israel. The Israeli radio said that the four men were armed and they were trying to sneak to an area near Nahal Oze settlement.

Also in Gaza, one explosive went off in one Israeli patrol near Beit Hanoun town. The groups of al-Naser Salah Eddine -- the military wing of the people's resistance committees -- said that its fighters ambushed one of the patrols and fired one missile at Kafer Ezza settlement to the east of the town.

Another armed Palestinian was also killed in a clash with one patrol for the Israeli forces at the cross road between Hebron and Yata town to the south of the West Bank.

Palestinian sources said that a large Israeli force pushed into the area and mopped up after imposing curfew on Yata town. News reports said that Israeli forces invaded Belata camp to the east of Nablus and clashes with youths in the camp.

Regarding the houses demolishing operations in Gaza, one Israeli court refused a new appeal proposed by al-Meizan ( scale ) center for human rights in Gaza to the Supreme Israeli court demanding immediate halt of the house demolishing in Rafah camp.

Earlier, the court green lighted the army to demolish houses in Rafah and its camp, according to security and military requirements, when it finds the life of the soldiers is endangered. The sentence considered that the demolishing operations already made were justified and is not in the course of collective punishment measures.
