GCC summit condemns terrorism, sanctions on Syria

The consultancy summit of the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) which was held in Jeddah on Sunday condemned terrorism " in all its forms and motives " especially the aggressions took place in Saudi Arabia, calling for " an intensive international effort to fight it."
In a press statement, the secretary general of the GCC Abdul Rahman al-Ateyah said that the leaders of the GCC member states " had deplored all forms of violence and terrorism in all its forms and pictures, regardless to its sources or motives, in being an international disease that threatens world's security and stability and requires an international effort to fight and exterminate it."
Concerning the Iraqi issue, the leaders expressed their " strong denunciation of the inhuman treatment and crimes committed by the occupation soldiers against the Iraqi prisoners." They also announced " condemnation of the terrorist operations in Iraq," stressing the importance of rapid authority transfer to the Iraqis and representing all social strata and the importance of having a pivotal role for the UN in Iraq."
On the other hand, the GCC leaders expressed their regret to " the US approved sanctions on Syria."
On the Palestinian- Israeli conflict, the participants in the meeting condemned the policy of demolishing houses by the Israeli forces and called on the US and the Quartet to work for putting the Roadmap into actual implementation.
Since 1999, the GCC- which was established in 1981- holds two summits annually. One is a consultancy meeting in the mid of the year and the second is ordinary by its end to take decisions.
