Syria, Iran for boosting industrial cooperation

Syria and Iran on Thursday agreed to launch two joint industrial projects in Syria the first is to establish car manufacturing near Damascus and the second is to produce glass.

This came in frame of an understanding memorandum signed by Ministers of Industry in both countries at the end of a five - day visit to Iran made by Minister of Industry Mohammed Safi Abu Dan.

The memo called to joint cooperation between the two countries in all domains related to industry and to remove obstacles hindering implementation.

It urged to pave the way to create conditions for building a joint company to produce the Iranian car of Semid at Adraa industrial city north of Damascus in 15 days.

The memo provided a catalyzer which is embodied in issuing all licenses of import and clearing equipment and commodities as well making exempts needed to build cement project of Hama, north central Syria.

Safi Abu Dan said in a statement to SANA correspondent in Tehran the visit was a success due to its being complementary to talks recently held in Damascus in frame of the Syrian -Iranian Joint Higher Committee.

The two projects scheduled to be set out soon are to gather car parts in Adraa north Damascus and to produce flat glass in cooperation with Iranian KAWA industrial group at the industrial region of Homs, central Syria.

For his part, Iran's Minister of Industry, Issac Jahangiri, told SANA he hoped the Iranian investors would seize the opportunity to build industrial projects in Syria in light of current cooperation between the two friendly countries.
