Burns: we have no interests to prescribe reforms
Regional-USA, Politics, 5/14/2004
The US under secretary of state for the Middle East affairs William Burns said yesterday in Algeria that the USA has no interests in prescribing " reforms ' in this region.
Burns said in a press conference that these " reforms being economic or political will not succeed unless they come from the region itself." he added that the US and Algeria " are linked to a strong partnership" in the field of fighting terrorism.
The Algerian president Abdul Aziz Butaflika received the American official who arrived earlier in the day in Algiers in a visit lasted for several hours after which he moved to Morocco where he was welcomed by the Moroccan King. Burns is visiting Tunisia today after which he will leave to Jordan.
